The Staint Joseph Guild is meeting for the first time here at Holy Spirit on Wednesday May 7th. Men of retirement age have received an invitation to come together for fellowship and to assist Dave, our maintenance man, with his duties of maintaining, repairing, and building, here at our parish. As I have been told, this concept was begun at St. Agnes Parish in Flint some years back and it was an idea which spread quickly, even across denominational lines. St Agnes was my previous assignment and I quickly saw the value of this association of men who not only grew in friendship, and saved the church a lot of money, but who also grew in holiness through their devotion to St Joseph, the foster father of Jesus, the Carpenter of Nazareth, and the patron saint of all who work with their hands.
The day begins with mass at 8, followed by a little fellowship with coffee ( a "cup a Joe") and donuts. This is followed by a work time which would typically last until noon and then conclude with a lunch prepared by one of our Guild members.
The Guild is not limited to retirees. If you are still working but have your mornings off, please join us. Its also not limited to the able-bodied. If you are unable to do any physical work, come anyway. We would enjoy your company. |
Location: Activity Center and Work building at the top of the hill.
